TOPSoccer Match Outreach program to promote local soccer and train young people with disabilities in a caring coaching environment. Event: 4v4 match with four teams. Each team will play two 30-minute games. The first game will begin at 6pm. The second game will be at 7:15pm. Awards will be at 8pm. Date: August 12, 2005 Participants: TOPSoccer is open to kids between the ages of 5 and 18 with physical and/or mental disabilities. The TOPSoccer program not only gives young athletes with disabilities an opportunity to play soccer, it also serves as a feeder program to recruit, assess and train players to participate in competitions offered by existing sports organizations for people with disabilities and mainstreams higher ability players on to regular youth soccer teams. The number and size of the teams can be adjusted to match the number of participants. Training: Each team will be assigned a coach from Springfield Thunder. These coaches will work with their group to prepare them for the tournament. A week long training camp August 1-5 may be organized to work with all the kids. The U11G and U12G teams have volunteered to take a team. Cost: We will need to provide uniforms/shirts and awards. I think we can get volunteers and other items donated.
